Wow! The last six weeks were a whirlwind of cons and excitement. It’s nice to have a weekend with no plans for the first time since September. Time to sit back, chill for a minute, play some D&D, and draw some monsters. 😉 More after this wicked awesome drawing I made of the KING OF MONSTERS.

Orycon in Portland was wonderful. Going in to its 45th year, this con felt like being invited into a family gathering. A collection of folks that had been doing this since the early 80’s. Because it was. I’d wager these same people were the ones at the Star Trek conventions of the 60’s and 70’s. I’m almost never the youngest person anywhere I go these days. At Orycon, I was definitely in a few rooms where I was one of the younger folks there. Along with my fellow film-collaborator Sean, I discovered FILKING for the first time in my life! We wandered into a FILKING circle knowing nothing other than “Bardic Circle, pass, play, request.” Well, it turns out FILKING is awesome, and I need more in my life. Few things more fulfilling, more soul-affirming, more HUMAN, than sitting in a circle with others and making music together. What is FILKING, you might ask? Why, it’s folk-music with a sci-fi/fantasy bent. My biggest seller at Orycon was physical copies of Echoes of Undoing! I will be going to Orycon 45 if they’ll have me. WASHINGTON HORROR CON was up the weekend after Orycon, and WOW! What a great show! For its inaugural iteration, Horror Con was like Summer Con in the Fall. Tons of people, lots of awesome art, and a fun time all-around. I will definitely be there next year if I’m able. Best seller at Orycon – Prints! And I sold out of number one – THE THING.

GRIT CITY COMIC SHOW capped the season for me in a one-day show in downtown Tacoma. As usual, Grit City is a great con, and I’ve already booked my table for 2025. I’m getting more confident about taking commissions as my drawing speed improves. Took a nice commission in the last couple hours. It was a fun one, and I’m excited to get back to the Grit City ASAP. Best seller at Grit City Comic Show – COMIX! Of course! Trade paperbacks collecting ALL 5 issues of HELLBOUND SLANT 6 were the big sellers. Check out the Grit City Comic Show!

I don’t have another con booked until January’s Fan Expo in Portland. It’ll be nice to have a break and hopefully channel these Winter blues into something productive. I’ve got books to write, comics to draw, and films to produce. So until next time, I wish you all well. Fingers crossed we don’t have to take to the streets to fight for our rights in the immediate future. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
